This first Africa Innovation Summit (AIS) is a catalyst event. It is an integral part of a much broader effort to build a platform for promoting innovation in Africa. The Summit will lay the foundation for an ongoing multi stakeholder dialogue on innovation in Africa.All stakeholders, including policy makers, entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, academics, and investors will be engaged in a collaborative effort to undertake strategic assessment, seek robust solutions and engage key actors to build a more propitious environment for innovation in the continent. An important element of this broader initiative is a scholarly research project which will showcase and analyze selected cases, undertake critical studies and propose strategies. These efforts will allow for evidence based dialogue and recommendations. For the first Summit, several case studies on innovation hubs in Africa will be undertaken. A series of scholarly research papers on how African countries can build innovation driven economies will be prepared.
The first annual Africa Innovation Summit will bring together entrepreneurs, innovators, financiers, policy makers and researchers in one place to conduct an extensive dialogue on innovation in Africa. The Summit will lead to practical recommendations for the various stakeholders on engendering and speeding up innovation on the continent. A crucial element of the Summit will be to showcase innovative enterprises on the continent as well as their innovations. The Summit will also allow aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs to share ideas and to learn about obtaining financing and taking their products to markets. . A set of pre-Summit activities will be undertaken to help enrich the dialogue and to broaden engagement among all stakeholders.
