This PwC annual publication on mines confirms the recovery of financial performance after the recent global recession. However, the subdued increase in market capitalisation, followed by some declines later in 2011, is indicative of uncertainty in the market and negative perceptions about the sustainability of growth. Safety statistics unfortunately did not share the same improvements as financial performance. This was disappointing not only because of the unfortunate injury and loss of life, but also because of the large focus it is getting from all stakeholders.
